My Journey

What Happens When You Slow Down and Just Enjoy?

Share

The colors begin to pop and the rocks that once trampled under your feet begin to interest you. All of a sudden, looking around into the hillsides you will start to see a wide variety of plant life, flowers that are bursting in colors, interesting rocks…yeah…I said it…interesting rocks! You will start to realize that you have been taking each day and what you see around you for granted. Once you slow down, you will discover that there is a lot of fascinating things happening on a daily basis. Sometimes you just have to take the time to notice it. […]

Breaking a 7 Minute Mile: Mission Accomplished

Share

I recently wrote about how I was able to shave down my 1-mile time to 7:16 and wasn’t quite sure if I should push it farther and try to break the 7-minute mile mark. Part of me was saying, ‘yeah, go for it,’ but the other part of me was thinking that it might be incredibly tough. After all, cutting down an additional 16 or 17 seconds is a lot more than people think. The other part of me was saying to just start running some longer distances. I guess I was kind of torn on where to go next. I […]

Running

Running One Mile in 7:16

Share

I have always said that there are two things in this world that I really don’t enjoy…math…and running! It’s something that has always seemed like a huge chore to me, and for the life of me I could not understand why these delusional people have kept telling me about the joys of running. Seriously, running for fun? Just the thought of it would rattle around in my brain for a moment before getting tossed aside like it was some type of joke. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand the purpose of running and all of the great benefits it […]

A Wrinkle in Chimes on Saturday Morning

Share

As I sat outside of the coffee shop on this beautiful Saturday morning, sipping on my herbal tea and reading a book from my childhood, the soothing sounds of these wind chimes were ringing overhead. Immediately, it took me back to a simpler time when I was young and my family and I would head up to the pine trees during the summer time to escape the sweltering heat of the desert. I remember sitting on the front porch of an old cabin and hearing the whispering wind through the pines, as the metal wind chimes echoed across the small […]

Don’t Let Anyone Fool You: Getting in Shape is Hard Work

Share

If you’re looking to get into shape, and somebody tells you that you can take some magic supplement (besides steroids, or something illegal) that will have you shredded and in the best shape of your life within weeks is flat out lying to you. When you see people that are in physically great shape, they have put in a lot…let me say that again…Getting in shape is A LOT of hard work. Falling Into Bad Habits Again It’s been at least a couple of years now that I dropped about 40 pounds or so, and along the way I have […]

Addicted to Technology

The Vicious Cycle of Technology

Share

There are many times that I have told myself that I’m simply going to put the computer away, leave the phone at home and start getting back to nature and leaving this technology-filled world behind for a little bit. But one thing I have realized is that as much as I have fought it, it’s probably time to admit that there’s a serious addiction that’s happening.  It might not be terrible, but even as I sit here writing this I wonder if it would be better to go wander around in the rain instead of sitting here. Now don’t get […]

Memory Palace

The Memory Palace Really Works!

Share

Do not worry, I’m not going to start off by telling you that I learned some kind of crazy memory trick that now drastically improved my brain power and turned me into some type of memory wizard or anything, but I am going to tell you about a really cool memory trick called ‘The Memory Palace‘ that I learned awhile back. In a matter of just a few days, I was able to memorize more than the first 100 numerical values of Pi. Now, I know that some people have done WAY better than that, but for me, this was not only […]

Getting out and Enjoying Life in Julian, California

Share

If you’re ever looking for a great day trip from San Diego, Julian, California is a great place to check out. Getting there from downtown is quite simple, and takes about an hour and a half at the most. You can either take the route that heads east past Alpine and then make the journey northward past Lake Cuyamaca. The winding roads make it a bit of a slow trip, but there’s lot of great scenery, some small little towns and roadside stands that sell fresh strawberries. The other route, the one I took on this particular day led me […]

I Left my Heart in Budapest

Share

Oh Budapest, you far off land that once seemed like it was so far from reach. How I already miss you so! For some reason, the city of Budapest always seemed like a mysterious destination to me and its been one of those places I didn’t know much about. I had heard people talk about it, seen a couple of photos, but it had never ranked on my short list of ‘must-see’ places. Not for any reason in particular, but more so because of my lack of knowledge and information about the Hungarian capital. Just having the name Buda in the title […]
